What are the Causes of Infertility in Men?

Among the causes of infertility, male problems play almost as much of a role as female problems.

Among the Causes of Infertility in Men:

  • There may be no sperm

  • Sperms may have motility disorders, which will make it difficult for the sperm to swim towards the egg

  • There may be abnormally shaped sperm.

Sperm can sometimes have an abnormal shape, making it difficult for them to move and fertilize an egg.

-Many cases of abnormal sperm remain unexplained.

There is a connection between increasing the temperature of the scrotum and decreasing semen quality, but it has not been proven whether wearing loose underwear increases fertility.

The testicles produce and store sperm. If they are damaged, the quality of the sperm can be seriously affected.

This may occur as a result of:

Sterilization

Some men say that if they don't want children or don't want any more children,  vasectomy they prefer to have it done  .

It involves cutting out the tubes that carry sperm from the testicles (vas deferens) so that the semen no longer contains sperm.

Vasectomy can be reversed, but reversals are not usually successful.

Ejaculation Disorders

Some men,  which may make it difficult for them to release semen (ejaculation) during sexual intercourse They experience ejaculation problems.

Hypogonadism

Hypogonadism is abnormally low levels of testosterone, the male sex hormone that plays a role in sperm production.

This may be due to a tumor, drug use, or Klinefelter syndrome (a rare syndrome involving an extra female chromosome).

Medicines

Some types of medications can sometimes cause infertility problems. These include:

  • Sulfasalazine – Crohn's disease  and rheumatoid arthritis An anti-inflammatory drug used to treat conditions such as  ; Sulfasalazine may reduce sperm count, but its effects are temporary and sperm count returns to normal when a person stops taking it.

  • Anabolic Steroids – Often used illegally to build muscle and improve athletic performance; anabolic steroids long term  Misuse may reduce sperm count and sperm motility

  • Chemotherapy  – Drugs used in chemotherapy can sometimes seriously reduce sperm production

  • Herbal Remedies – Some herbal remedies, such as root extracts of the Chinese herb Tripterygium wilfordii, may affect sperm production or reduce the  size of the testicles.

Illegal drugs such as marijuana and cocaine can also affect semen quality.

Unexplained Infertility

Unexplained infertility accounts for approximately 1 in 4 cases of infertility. This is when no cause can be identified in either partner.
