What Tests Are Performed on Women in Infertility?

In women with infertility problems, the examination for the cause begins with ovulation-related tests. Ultrasonography is the basic examination tool.

What Tests Are Performed in Infertile Women?

Tests to find the cause of infertility in women include: 

Blood Tests: 

To check if you are ovulating  The level of a hormone called progesterone is checked.

Tbreeze timing of your menstrual periods Depends on how organized it is. 

Your periods is irregularFSH and LH, called gonadotropins that stimulate the ovaries to produce eggs. hormones  You will be offered a test to measure. Prolactin and thyroid hormones, which disrupt ovulation, will also be checked.

Chlamydia Test 

chlamydia  It is an infection that can affect fertility. A small, soft, round swab with a cotton tip is used to collect some cells from your cervix to test for chlamydia. 

Alternatively, a urine test can be used. 

 If you have chlamydia, you antibiotic will be prescribed  . 

Ultrasound Scan 

Ultrasound scan to check your ovaries, uterus and fallopian tubes available . Some conditions that can affect the uterus, such as endometriosis and fibroids, can prevent pregnancy.  

A scan may also be used to look for signs that your fallopian tubes (the tubes that connect the ovaries and the uterus) may be blocked

If the ultrasound indicates a possible blockage, your doctor may perform a laparoscopy. will refer you to a specialist to discuss further checks such as  . 

Transvaginal Ultrasound ScanDuring the procedure, an ultrasound probe is inserted into your vagina. The scan may be used to check the health of your uterus and ovaries and any blockages in your fallopian tubes. 

Hydrosonohysterographyis a special type of ultrasound scan sometimes used to check the fallopian tubes. 

A small amount of fluid is injected into your uterus through a tube placed in the neck of your uterus (cervix).  

Ultrasound is used to look at the fluid passing through the fallopian tubes to check for any blockages or abnormalities. 

X-ray 

Hysterosalpingography (HSG),  After a special dye is injected, your uterus and fallopian tubes It is an x-ray film. 

It is used to find blockages in your fallopian tubes that prevent the eggs from progressing through the tubes and into your uterus, or to detect a formation or adhesion such as a myoma occupying space in the uterus.

Laparoscopy 

Laparoscopy  It involves making a small incision in your lower abdomen so that a thin tube with a camera at the end (laparoscope) is inserted to examine your uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries. 

Dye may be injected into your fallopian tubes through your cervix to highlight any blockages inside them. 

Laparoscopy is generally only used if you are likely to have a problem; for example, in the past a pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) if you had an attack  or if scans show a possible blockage in one or both of your tubes.
